The Richard I pub on Royal Hill has reopened after redecoration and renovation
The relaxed pub is now offering a menu with an emphasis on British seasonal classics, as well as a new conservatory space and vibrant garden to make the most of the summer sun.
The menu at Richard I offers British pub dishes using local produce wherever possible, such as classic ale battered haddock with triple cooked chips, mushy peas and tartar sauce; and Drings Cumberland sausage, bubble and squeek with onion rings and ale gravy, as well as lighter dishes such as red quinoa, pomegranate, broccoli, pumpkin seed and smoked beetroot with avocado salad; plus sandwiches and sharing boards like a Baked Somerset Camembert board with smoked garlic, rosemary, pickles and sourdough bread; and Royal Ploughman's platter, with black pudding Scotch egg, Oxsprings cured ham, pork pie, Butler's Secret cheddar, radish, apple, celery and piccalilli.
On Sundays, the pub will serve a roast dinner with all the trimmings - guests choosing between treacle-cured sirloin of beef, smoked pork belly with baked apple and crackling; or lemon and thyme chicken with stuffing and bread sauce, a well as others. A kids menu is also available.
The range of beers available at the Richard I features craft beers - 16 choices from across the globe - including Meantime, Camden Town Breweries, Sierra Nevada, and others. There are a further 11 draught beers available, including Dogfish Head DNA, Camden Town Breweries' Hells Lager and Gentlemen's Witt, and Aspalls. There is also an extensive wine list for guests to enjoy.
The pub itself is colourful with vintage trinkets such as old prints and large iron keys on the walls. The conservatory area features bright potted plants hanging from wooden crates, and old drawers used for shelves sit alongside mini watering cans, as well as glass bottles and gardening sacks. The outside space is a buzzing, vibrant spot with tables and chairs, plants and flowers, and plenty of space for drinks after work or with friends to enjoy the sun.
The Richard I will hold regular events at the conservatory, such as quiz nights every tuesday and live acoustic music on Sundays. There are also plans to hold one-off workshops and classes, such as craft beer and cheese-matching masterclasses, as well as garden events for Bank Holidays.
With the renovation and delicious menu, the Richard I looks set to be one of Greenwich's most popular pubs. We'll certainly be dropping by for a bite and a pint!
