Julia Lambeth opens the first independent wine education company in South East London
A former senior manager at Majestic Wine is opening South London Wine School, the first independent wine education company in South East London, offering unique tastings and courses for people in the area keen to learn more about wine.
Julia Lambeth, who was recently awarded a scholarship prize for her Wine and Spirit Education Trust (WSET) Level 4 Diploma - the highest level of wine qualification - will host regular tastings and masterclasses, and will also lend her vast knowledge to an interesting range of bespoke wine evenings and private tastings, as well as hosting corporate wine events.
After paying her dues working at several Majestic stores, Julia was promoted to a senior manager role that included teaching professional wine courses at Majestic’s head office. She has visited many wine regions learning her craft, and has honed her winemaking skills in Bordeaux.
South London Wine School is the latest addition to the successful and rapidly expanding www.localwineschool.com family – a UK-wide network of around 20 independent wine schools providing a wide range of wine events for beginners and enthusiasts.
Alongside her wine tastings and courses, Julia plans to include cheese and wine matching nights, as well as chocolate and wine workshops, looking to work with local breweries, shops and vineyards to create a properly ‘local’ wine school.
Julia says: "Teaching others has been my favourite part of the job since joining the wine trade, and so it seemed like a natural progression. I knew that South London would be the ideal location – I’ve lived in several parts of the area while working at Majestic stores, so I know it well.
“South London Wine School will be a place to come and learn about wine in a fun and informal environment. I love tasting and talking about wine, and want to share this passion with everyone who attends a course. I’m also going to be running beer and spirit tastings, so there’ll be something for everyone to enjoy – even those who aren’t too keen on wine!”
Regular tastings will take place at the recently refurbished Mitre Hotel on Greenwich High Road.
The evening events kick off with a ‘Christmas Fizz’ tasting, taking place on Sunday 14th December, from 5pm - 7pm. Introductory evening courses will start in the New Year, on Thursday 22nd January, while the first all-day Saturday course with lunch and Champagne will be held on Saturday 21st February, from 11am - 4pm.
You can grab your tickets now at www.southlondonwineschool.com, and all tastings are available to buy as gift vouchers for budding wine enthusiasts.
