A Mini Marathon for Young Runners in Greenwich

Children from across Greenwich, aged between 5 and 16 years old, will complete their own ‘marathon’ to raise funds for Greenwich & Bexley Community Hospice.

Starting on Sunday 19th April from the iconic bandstand at the top of Royal Greenwich Park, children will take part in a fun and energetic warm up led by the team from Greenwich Get Active, before running, walking or jogging their way around the park – enjoying the stunning views of London as they go.

Community Fundraiser, Augusta Adu said: “Like the Virgin London Marathon, which takes place one week after our Mini Marathon, runners will be able to stand out from the crowd by running in fancy dress. We can’t wait to see what costumes and characters will be joining us!

“We’re delighted to be returning to Royal Greenwich Park for the third time, and to be warming up the park ready for the Virgin London Marathon!”

The first 200 children to register will receive a Frankie & Benny’s Kids Eat Free voucher (valid for children 11 years old and under) or a 20% off Frankie & Benny’s discount card (for children over 11 years old), both are valid for one year.

All runners raising over £100 in sponsorship will be automatically entered into a free prize draw with the chance to win Go Karting, a Panasonic Smart Blu-ray Disc Player with 3D and restaurant vouchers.

In 2014 over 700 local children took part in the Mini Marathon and helped to raise £34,647. This year the Hospice hopes to raise £40,000, enough to enable its doctors and nurses to provide specialist care to Hospice patients for one whole week.

Registration costs £7.50 per child and every child will receive a medal at the finish line.

To register or for more information go to www.communityhospice.org.uk, email info@gbch.org.uk or call 020 8319 9230.

*All children aged between 5 and 7 years old must be accompanied on the route by a responsible adult.
